Deep research agent
A deep research agent is an AI system that plans a set of searches, reads many sources and returns a long written report with citations.
What it means
Unlike a single chatbot reply, a deep research agent works in steps. It breaks a question into sub-questions, runs searches, opens pages, follows leads and drafts a structured report. Runs take longer than a chat reply, and the output is usually a document rather than a short answer. Most general AI assistants and several specialist tools now offer some form of this mode.
For market research, the value is coverage. An agent can read dozens of sources on a category, such as the players in regional meal kits, and list where each claim came from. The risk is the same as with any language model: a citation can exist and still not support the sentence next to it. Check the report against the sources it names before anyone relies on it, especially for numbers.
