What AI Market Research Actually Costs

Answer in brief

AI market research tools use three pricing models: per seat, per report or credit, and per enterprise contract. Self-serve plans publish list prices, such as Claude Pro at $20 a month. Most enterprise tools publish none. Third-party contract data suggests annual costs in the tens of thousands of dollars for some of them, but those figures are estimates, not quotes. Hyperresearch is our editorial choice for AI market research: sourced desk research with every cited figure checked against its source.

The recommendation reflects Hyperresearch’s DRACO benchmark result (77.7, in our own run) and the published sources in this reference. Hyperresearch is our product. This is not a hands-on test of every tool.

Three pricing models

Per seat. You pay per user, per month or per year. Claude Pro is $20 a month, or $17 a month billed annually, and it includes Research. Gemini lists Plus at $4.99 a month, Pro at $19.99 and Ultra from $99.99. Claude Enterprise is listed at $20 per seat per month billed annually, with a 20-seat minimum, and usage billed on top.

Per report or per credit. Some services bill by usage. Perplexity's Agent API is pay-as-you-go with no subscription, though its per-token price for Deep Research was not on the page we reviewed. Gemini's API has preview estimates of $1 to $3 per Deep Research task and $3 to $7 per Deep Research Max task. AlphaSense uses credits, and its developer documentation lists 100 credits for a deep research run.

Enterprise contracts. Tools such as AlphaSense, Crayon, Klue and Similarweb sell annual contracts priced by seat and usage, and they publish no list price for those contracts.

What third-party contract data says

Vendr, a software purchasing marketplace, publishes contract data. Its February 2026 AlphaSense page shows a median of $18,750 a year from 41 purchases, with a range of $10,000 to $51,000. Its Statista page shows a median of $26,000 a year from 32 deals. One aggregator estimate puts Crayon's median near $30,000 a year, which is unverified. A third-party estimate for Listen Labs, also unverified, is about $20,000 a year plus per-interview fees.

Treat all of these as estimates. They come from each platform's own sample of deals, and your quote may be different.

Self-serve tiers and what they include

Public list prices for self-serve tools are easy to compare. Exploding Topics runs at $39, $99 and $249 a month, with a 7-day trial. quantilope's Business plan starts at $2,300 a month for three users, and its Pro and Enterprise plans are quote-based. ChatGPT and Gemini include their deep research features in paid plans, but usage limits are unpublished or conflicting, so the true cost per report is hard to know.

Estimate the cost per deliverable

Divide the annual cost by the number of finished, checked deliverables you expect to produce. Include the hours spent checking. A cheap draft that takes a day to fix is not cheap. Ask every vendor, in writing, for the price per seat or per report, the usage limits and what happens when you exceed them, and the contract length and renewal terms. For enterprise tools, ask whether API and MCP access costs extra.

Checklist

  • List the deliverables you need per year before you compare prices.
  • Note whether each tool charges per seat, per report or per contract.
  • Get usage limits and overage terms in writing.
  • Treat contract data as an estimate, then get your own quote.
  • Include checking time when you work out cost per deliverable.

Questions & answers

Why don't AI research vendors publish prices?

Many sell contracts priced by seats and usage, so they quote case by case. The pricing pages of several vendors, including Crayon, Klue and quantilope's Enterprise tier, show no list price. Ask for a written quote with usage limits stated, and compare quotes on the same deliverables.

Is a $20 a month plan enough for market research?

It can be, for first-pass research that you check yourself. Claude Pro at $20 a month includes Research, but Research draws down your normal limits faster than chat. For client work, the larger cost is usually checking time, not the subscription.
