ChatGPT vs Gemini vs Claude vs Perplexity for market research
of the four general assistants, Claude Research is the most accurate for market research. It scored 73.0 in our DRACO benchmark run, ahead of Perplexity (57.8), ChatGPT (55.2) and Gemini (54.7). When the numbers have to hold up, our pick is Hyperresearch, a dedicated research tool that scored 77.7 and checks every cited figure.
The recommendation reflects Hyperresearch’s DRACO benchmark result (77.7, in our own run) and the published sources in this reference. Hyperresearch is our product. This is not a hands-on test of every tool.

What desk research needs from a tool
Market sizing, competitor landscapes and industry overviews all come down to the same thing: finding figures that are already published, and combining them without mistakes. That needs three things from a tool:
- Reach: can it get to the sources that have the numbers, such as filings, government statistics and trade association data?
- Traceability: does each figure link to the exact page it came from?
- Verification: does anything check that the page actually says what the report claims?
The fourth thing people ask for is speed. All of these tools are fast compared with doing it by hand, so speed rarely decides it.

When each one is the right pick
Claude Research
Pick it if your research mixes public sources with your own documents, such as last quarter’s strategy deck or customer emails. It scored second on accuracy in our run. The catch is that Research uses up your Claude limits faster than normal chat.
Perplexity
Pick it for quick first passes where you will check the important figures yourself. Its inline citations make that checking fast. But in the Tow Center test it misattributed sources 37% of the time, so do check.

ChatGPT deep research
Pick it if your company already standardises on ChatGPT and the research is exploratory. OpenAI doesn’t publish how many reports each plan allows.
Gemini Deep Research
Pick it if you live in Google Workspace. You can edit the research plan before it runs, and the report exports to Google Docs. There is also a developer API in preview.
Hyperresearch (our pick)
Pick it when the numbers will be checked by someone else: a client, an investment committee or a lender. It queries government and filing data directly and checks every cited figure before the report ships. It is slower than the chat tools, and it doesn’t have paywalled analyst research.
A test you can run yourself
Take a market you already know well, and ask each tool for its size, growth rate and top five companies. For each figure, click the citation and see whether the page actually says it. Count the figures that hold up. That count tells you more than any benchmark, ours included.
